Trantolo & Trantolo Seminar

Posted in Featured on January 28th, 2010 by admin

Last Sunday I had the opportunity to attend a seminar produce by Norm LeBlanc of Trantolo & Trantolo, LLC in Stafford Springs Connecticut. The seminar covered the logistics of organizing a successful and safe motorcycle event.

Connecticut State Police were on hand to discuss safety and working with state and local authorities for a trouble free ride.

The seminar was extremely informative and the turnout was substantial despite a  snowstorm happening in the area. Topics covered included acquiring permits, working with local and State government, working with local and State police, road captains, and insurance needs.

We have to thank Trantolo & Trantolo, LLC for conducting the seminar free of charge and making  the off-riding season productive in all our goals as riders to come together and ride for any good cause.

We urge you to visit the Trantolo & Trantolo website and signup for their newsletter.

Biker - The Unplugged Version

Posted in Featured on September 8th, 2009 by admin

WTNH Channel 8 in New Haven Connecticut has always been a tremendous supporter
of Biker charity events, in particular the annual Red Knights run for the Connecticut
Burns Foundation. Their coverage of biker charity events helps spread the biker
spirit and greatly enhance awareness of the worthy causes.

So when anchor Darren Kramer chose to take to the street on his "unplugged"
hog for a worthy cause we feel we should return the favor and offer our support
for his admirable effort. Mr. Kramer will be riding for Bike MS in support of
the Nation Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Please visit National
MS Society - Bike Event

support.

In Memoriam - Rosemary

Posted in Featured on August 12th, 2009 by admin

On July 27th a good friend of the Bikers Realm family passed away. Rosemary, wife of Dragon was instrumental in the conception of BikersRealm.com last year. She valiantly supported charity causes and was there for everyone even in the wake of here illness she courageously battled. She will be missed by many and we will think of her at every charity ride and event as her spirit lives on in the well doing of the bikers and people she suported.

Here is a beautiful story written by Tom Veilleux for the New Haven Register:

Branford woman well-known for her generosity of spirit

BRANFORD — Rosemary. Lan-dino was a very patient, understanding person, no matter the circumstance.

“I would tease her all the time, and she never once said a mean thing back to me,” said a cousin, Adelaide “Addie” Raucci of Branford. “Our cousin Anthony (Rescigno of Beverly Hills, Calif.) once cut off one of her braids and she never said a word. Rosemary was so sweet.”

“Rosemary was alway very happy, no matter what came down,” said Resigno. “She and I were both six years old when I cut off her braid. She started crying but soon enough we were laughing about it. She was a good kid, serious but pleasant. And she was always there to help you. You didn’t have to ask her twice, and sometimes you didn’t even have to ask and she’d be there for you.”
All Landino ever asked of anyone was to be treated the way she treated others, said her husband of 45 years, Frank. “She was a very lovable person and you would take to her in a heartbeat,” he said. “She loved everybody and was never one to argue with others.”

Landino died July 27 at age 65.

Born Oct. 20, 1943,in New Haven,, a daughter of Nunzio and Carmel Simeoli, she attened St, Mary’s School and worked for Sargent & Co., a medical doctor and finally a legal firm. She also owned several companies, including a jewelry company and mortgage counseling service, and had lived in Hamden before moving to Branford.
Landino helped create a Web site for motorcycle enthusiasts that listed a number of charities for them to contribute to. She also participated in several area events to collect money or toys for different charities.

In her spare time, Landino liked to cook (pasta e fagioli was her specialty), decorate, swim, walk, go to the beach, dance, take photographs, read, play cards and shop. She was a fan of the Red Sox, New York Giants and UConn women’s basketball.

Landisno and her husband visited Canada, England, France, California, Florida, Washington, B.C., Pennsylvania, North Dakota, Arizona and Massachusetts.
The Landinos knew each other going back to their teen years. “When I was in the military, I sent her the money to buy a diamond ring,” recalled Frank. “We got married two years after I got out of the service and honeymooned in California. I was a motorcyle buff and finally got her to ride with me, although it took five or six years to convince her. As we were out riding that first time, she leaned into my ear and said, ‘I love this.’ I pulled over and said to her, ‘So what took you so long?’”

As a child, Landino spent summers at a cottage in Indian Neckwithher cousins and other relatives. “We waterskiied and swam and clammed together — although she clammed under duress. She didn’t like to get her hands dirty,” laughed Raucci. “We went to St. Mary’s together and read and were in Girl Scouts together. As adults, we did a lot of cooking together and took bus trips to see plays. She was always so generous of spirit.”

Raucci’s daughter and Landino’s godchild, Kim Cox, said Landino “treated me like a special angel. She was very kindhearted and a gentle spirit. She was my angel and she meant the world to me.” A friend, Rayleen Cioffi of Branford, said Landino was like a big sister to her. “We compared notes on cooking — she advanced my cooking skills — and shared lot of laughs and prayers and sisterhood,” said Cioffi. “Knowing Rosemary was very special and fulfilling.”

Warren Buffett Rides With Harley

Posted in Biker News, Featured on February 4th, 2009 by admin

Warren Buffett, the celebrated investor, is backing one of America’s most iconic companies, buying a $300m debt tranche in motorbike manufacturer Harley-Davidson.

Mr Buffett, better known for his investments in insurance and financials, bought the debt as part of a $600m issue by Harley to increase its cash position.

Harley has been struggling of late, following a 58pc decline in its fourth-quarter profit after losses at its financing arm, announcing the loss of 1,100 jobs last month and the need to consolidate a number of its plants.

The new cash will be used to bolster its finance arm, with RBC Capital Markets’ Ed Aaron noting: “Harley’s finance arm needs capital in a highly constrained credit environment.”

But that capital will come at a cost – with Mr Buffett receiving a 15pc annual dividend on his investment in Harley’s senior unsecured debt, which matures in 2014.

The dividend is approximately twice the average coupon paid on corporate debt in the US.

Shares in Harley traded up 16pc, in spite of ratings agency Moody’s Investor Services cutting its credit rating on the bike manufacturer’s funding arm to A2, warning of a further downgrade due to the “current cyclical downturn in the US economy.”

The company has been suffering from a drop in demand for its products, as motorcyclists in both the US and around the world reduce their spending as a direct consequence of the growing recession.

In spite of that, Harley recently celebrated the completion of its one millionth bike, a red 883 Sportster, which rolled off the production line at its Kansas City plant.

Moving Day

Posted in Featured, Stories on December 2nd, 2008 by admin

When one of our members needed a helping hand, the Knights of the Crusade MC stepped up without hesitation.

Here’s the story:

Kathy has multiple sclerosis and was recently granted housing in an assisted living facility that would make the quality of here day to day living much better than it has been.

Faced with limited resources to make the move, Bikers Realm was contacted to see if we could put her in touch with anyone to help with the move. The Knights of the Crusade MC stepped up and offerred to make the move for her.

One of the Knights generously offered the use of a truck and trailer with several other members lending a hand to make the move a painless as possible.

Bikers are well known for their efforts fundraising to large charities but we can’t dismiss smaller efforts of generosity such as this because it is simply in the true Biker Spirit and genuinely made a difference.

I’d like to extend thanks to the Knights of the Crusade for their generosity and supporting someone in need. A truly “Moving” day.

Please feel free to visit the Knights website.

In Memoriam - Nick aka Bubba

Posted in Featured on November 21st, 2008 by admin

On Tuesday we lost one of our earliest members to an unexpected and sudden illness. Although I had only recently met Nick, a regular at a local coffee shop and meeting place for many bikers, it didn’t take long to consider him a friend as so many did. Nick was a free spirit who lived life to it’s fullest.

    He will be missed.

If you had the privilege of knowing Nick please feel free to leave a comment and tell us a little more about him.
